Everything to Know about Syndicating to Lowe's
In the modern retail world, it can get confusing quickly: “eCommerce”, “syndication”, “validation” and “digital content” are all terms that you may come across. We are here to help you understand the process and provide you free access, so you can be as successful as possible selling your items through Lowe’s stores.
Today, nearly everyone has a mobile device...
It could be a smartphone, pad or tablet (or maybe all three!). And shoppers use them to plan their shopping trips.
In fact, more than 87% of shoppers browse products on their mobile device before they ever set foot in a store,
and more than 70% use them when they’re in-store.
In this competitive shopping marketplace, top retailers like Lowe’s want to make sure they create the best environment for their customers, starting with browsing items online. They know that if their shopper can’t find the information they’re looking for on the website, they will look somewhere else.
That’s why it is so important to Lowe’s to have their suppliers’ products – your products – listed correctly online, to serve their shoppers…and yours.
What is Product Content?
Simply put, product content is a group of basic descriptions and images – things like the brand name and item, its dimensions (if it’s sold in a container), UPC, weight, ingredients, and quite a few others. There are usually a defined set of these descriptions, or attributes, that are required by a retailer. To learn more, check out our blog on core content.
What Lowe's Needs
Lowe’s uses product content to make sure they can properly track inventory across their supply chain of stores and warehouses, as well as display it online for shoppers. The supply chain information is part of the Global Data Synchronization Network, or GDSN (More information about the GDSN can be found here). This content is also the basis for showing what items are in stock locally or able to be shipped from another store.
Lowe’s currently tracks hundreds of thousands of products like this, and they add hundreds of thousands more each year. As a supplier, it is important to deliver this information to Lowe’s in the format they can use, to ensure your items are in the system properly and displayed online. To do this, you need to syndicate your data.
What is Syndication?
Syndication is simply the process of sending information from a single place (or “platform”) across a network of one or more participating partners who receive the data. By uploading your product content, it can automatically be sent to Lowe’s in the specific data formats they need. By loading this data in a single location, it can be distributed as many times and places as directed. And if Lowe’s changes the product details it requires, it is automatically delivered from the content already in the platform.
How Do I Syndicate My Data? Can I Do it Myself?
Yes you can, with help from Syndigo. Our integrated platform, called Content Experience Hub (CXH), is the single platform for uploading and managing your product content – including data needed for GDSN, eCommerce imagery, and more.
You only need to input your product data once to CXH (and update the content if your product changes). From there, it will be syndicated to Lowe’s free of charge, based on their program (and any other retailer you may want to send it to*). To ensure consistency and accuracy, Syndigo is the only vendor partner approved by Lowe’s to syndicate content from suppliers.
Lowe’s is already one of the largest retailers for home and DIY, and it’s growing even more through eCommerce. Let Syndigo help you “supercharge” your content to help you sell more online and in store.
